Many people are asking me about the MeeGo porting. Of course, I didn’t fully explain how meego to work on the Nexus One. So I provided my resource to the gitorious. then please try them!

As you see, Here is about MeeGo 1.1 can boot on NexusOne from microSD via fastboot.

As I referred at LinuxCon Japan, Next step is standalone boot. So it’s complete replacement. Android => MeeGo. BTW, The slide of LinuxCon Japan is the following.

I replaced boot.img the Android to MeeGo. But boot partition(/dev/mtdblock2) is too small. This block only can write data about 2.5MB. So It can’t put fully rootfs or intelligent initrd. then boot.img(recover.img) is required zImage and initrd. But zImage only booting has already been proven. So It’s ok that we prepare zImage and empty initrd.

As you know, MeeGo could be worked on the NexusOne. It was v1.1 development release that time. Then I tried if MeeGo 1.1 final release could work on it. Of course, It could be work. and We’ve made it more responsive to running.

LinuxCon Japan 2010 my summary and review

LinuxCon Japan is the premiere Linux conference in Asia. Attending many core open source developers, kernel hackers, administrators, users and so on. It’s an important opportunity for open source contributors. So this is my summary and review.

About my session. It’s my first time presentation in English. Actually I had prepared three months. First, I’m not a native speaker. don’t speak English well. So it needed. Second, My presentation was a plan to port the MeeGo to a device. When I sent a CFP, I didn’t have anything. It was challenge. Then result was so good. MeeGo could work on the NexusOne. I was able to communicate this possibility. Of course, this plan has many issues.

MeeGo 1.1 Development Release(1.0.90.1.20100831.1) for N900 status

As you know, MeeGo 1.1 Development Release(Nightly build) has been released. I saved some log files on my N900 when it was booted by microSD.

I used in the following files.

meego-handset-armv7l-n900-nokia-proprietary-1.0.90.1.20100831.1-mmcblk0p.raw.bz2

meego-handset-armv7l-n900-nokia-proprietary-1.0.90.1.20100831.1-vmlinuz-2.6.35.3-5.2-n900

You can get this image from http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/meego-codedrop.php on which you need your N900 product ID.

BTW, N900 image can display the Handset UX. Also rotation can be worked.

Actually, I posted CFP(Call For Partitipation). Making a presentation in English, That’s one of the my goal. I got a chance:)

My session is “Porting MeeGo to another devices”. MeeGo is supported Netbooks, Nokia N900 smartphone now. MeeGo is released arm and x86 binaries. This is an opportunity that can use and support many devices. I’m sure we can do it. Also I have already ported ubuntu lucid to Nexus One.MeeGo probably work well.

As you know, MeeGo 1.0 has been released. Netbook has the User Experience then you can test that using image on your netbook. But N900 and IVI image has no UX. They seem to be development release in position :(

I have a time now, so I output dmesg on my N900 when it was booted by microSD and temporaly boot of kernel.

I used in the following files.

As you know, MeeGo codes has been opened on the end of March. You can get ia32/arm RPMS/SRPMS now.

But currently User eXperience doesn’t published. MeeGo community promised to release at Stard of April. And then, The promise was carried out :-) But we can only boot up and see console screen. There were some opinion to this activity on MeeGo mailing list. For example, “User interface has not been released. so It’s not keeping promises”.
